Welcome welcome welcome!

Alright, it's time!! GWS will now be updating five times a week on weekdays (and some Sundays, like today), for as long as you guys are willing to keep it going.

Speaking of, there's a new list of incentives for those of you who plan to donate. All donators will recieve something in their inboxes soon, but 5 $20+ donators and 1 extra $50+ donator will be drawn from a hat to choose from the incentives list as well.

Okay, Bill Ellis of Silver Rage is here being my studiomate for the weekend (which means, YES, he will be producing wonderful artwork again soon!), so we're gonna go out and have a celebratory drink or five. Enjoy the early update and remember to come back Monday!!

PS. The Shins: Wincing The Night Away

PPS. Redbridge beer (gluten-free and made of Sorghum) does NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT taste good!!

Woops! and More good stuff!

Sorry for the late start today; until I start having automatic updates I'm going to have a hard time keeping the manual updates going, but I'll try my best!

Kathy Peterson from Kidnapped By Gnomes did a great interview with me the other day!

And don't forget, the first GWS update was uploaded YESTERDAY - go check it out if you missed it!

Happy 7/4 and all that!

Happy Fourth, y'all! I have no idea why I'm writing down here. I have nothing to say beyond that.

I think with all the updates, I don't feel right putting up a new comic without some stupid commentary down here. Should I shrug off the feeling? Or should I continue to upload new blog posts every time I update the comic? Maybe I'll just start reading Snapple caps to you.

Did you know that seals sleep only one and a half minutes at a time?

Snapple tip #132

A crocodile cannot move its tongue.

Bummer for female crocs.

"Incelism"

Okay, enough of that Snapple crap. Find them yourselves. (warning! you will waste the next 20 min)

Hey, I learned a new word today that you all might appreciate: incelism. It essentially means "involuntary celibacy." I'm sure many of you can relate. We all have at some point.

I would have used this word in leiu of "celibacy" in today's strip because it seems more appropriate, but I wasn't sure how many people would know the word. I sure as hell didn't.

Just like in Pee Wee's playhouse, this is the word of the day. Go make one of your friends say the word of the day, and then SCREEEEEAM!!

TCAF-ho!!

Special thanks to Adam W for pointing out just how creepy that song is, and yes, Jamie's listening to the Police on a Walkman.

So, good news!! I've been invited to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, or TCAF, in mid-August! I haven't been to this show before, but I hear nothing but good stuff about it. Apparently it's only around once every two years.

I'll give you guys more information about the show as I get it. For now, some of the awesome artists who will be there:

J. Bone
Michael Cho
Paul Pope
Seth
Darwyn Cooke
Hope Larson
Bryan Lee O'Malley
Ramón Pérez
Cameron Stewart
Becky Cloonan
Tim Fish (OH MY GOD, Tim Fish!!)
Chris Hastings
Rina Piccolo
Jim Rugg
Andy Runton
Rich Stevens
Raina Telgemeier

Those are just a few. For real! Check out the list!

And before I forget, Valerie D'Orazio aka Occasional Superheroine posted an interview with me JUST NOW - fresh off the presses! She asked some great questions and added a bunch of her own research and GWS finds. So go check it out!

Flowers

Let this be a lesson to all you shy guys working at chocolate factories!

PS. Newsarama did a mighty nice interview with me and posted it yesterday. Enjoy!

PPS. Nearly every single link above the comic has been updated, if just a little bit! We're getting somewhere!

Comic Geek Speak!

Click here for a Comic Geek Speak interview with moi, Liz Greenfield, and Dani (the girlfriend behind In His Likeness), and more at Hereos Con!

God I love these guys. By the way, you DO know that I'll be at their 300th episode September 22nd, correct? I mean, have you SEEN the list of people who are going to be there? I hear they even got JAMES HATTON to come out for this. Fucking JAMES HATTON!! Can you believe it, folks??! I hear he's VERY difficult to get!! No really!!

Obviously, you should be there too. Shyeah.

POSTCARDS SIGNING!

Sorry for the delay on this strip, folks!

DC-AREA PEOPLE! What are you up to next Tuesday, the 24th?

If you're in the area, maybe you should hit Olsson's Books in Dupont Circle at 7:00 pm for our very first signing for the Postcards anthology, which includes a story illustrated by moi and written by A. David Lewis. You'll be able to pick up the book, meet me and editor Jason Rodriguez, and, you know, get it signed, this being a signing and all.

There will also be original art from the book hanging on the walls, and I'll be bringing the remaining 6 original pages to sell if you're interested. Yay original art!!

October!

Just a quick note to congratulate you guys - we're now working toward funding GWS through October 2007 with the donations!

From now on, 50% of original art sales and Etsy sales will count as donations as well. This means that buying two or more original strips, or $100 worth of Etsy art, will put you in the $50+ drawing for each $1700 raised, which makes you way more likely to win prizes!

Speaking of which, congratulations to the June 2007 winners! (Yeah, I know, I'm on a bit of a delay.) If your name is Matthew G, Phil T, Jay T, John F, Catherine C, or Joellen H, you should definitely be checking the e-mail address listed on your PayPal account to see if you're one of the winners!

ATTENTION WEEKLY WORLD NEWS READERS!

Yep, the rumors are true.

I got the e-mail on Friday stating that the Weekly World News will be shutting down, thus making GWS my one and only official job. Unfortunately, The New Adventures of Bat Boy will be no more.

I've got two choices: I can either start looking for another, similar gig doing a weekly or monthly comic strip, or I can bump the donations drive up to cover my losses and start doing color Sunday strips at GWS from now on. Thoughts?

Meanwhile, in bigger and brighter news, did you know that Wikipedia claims I'm one of Shepherdstown's notable residents? Right under Courtney Cummz, who-- well, you can guess what she's notable for.

But in case you can't, I advise you not click that link if you're at work.

Away Message!

While everyone else in webcomics, comics, and graphic novels is spending their time at the San Diego Comic Con, I'm coincidentally making a trip to LA, a mere 2 hours away from SD, until Friday the 3rd. And believe it or not, I will probably NOT be attending SDCC, because I intend to make this a work-free holiday. And because I've heard the traffic is AWFUL from LA to SD!

I've worked my ass off to make sure you're getting the full bill of GWS comics you've paid for while I'm gone! So I'll still be updating the site every Monday through Friday for your enjoyment. In other words, you'd better enjoy. ;)

Oh, and before I leave (because my guess is I won't be blogging between now and the 6th of August), did I mention I'll be at TCAF August 18 & 19? Because I have a graphic now, which you should definitely click on. Look!!

PS. I simply had to mention that one of my favorite websites, Maggie Bitter, updated a new Bitter moment for our enjoyment for the first time in a long while. Read up!
