Back to School

YAY!! We've got our Internet back!!

By the way, the eBay auctions are still on (see above) and there are no bids on the first piece (Avril) - just letting you know that someone could get some CHEAP-ass art from me, 'cause the bids start at $0.99!

Oh also, just in time for Valentine's Day, I'm gonna try to dig up last year's GWS Valentines and put them up for auction next. IF I find them.

Later today...

Well, I guess it's a no-brainer; I suck because there's no new strip up yet!

Please bear with us through this *ahem* difficult time. Strip will be up later today!

Meanwhile, congrats to the winners of the eBay auctions!! I do have a little bad news; I can't find the GWS valentines ANYWHERE, so I'm going to have to eBay different art tomorrow. (Eh, woulda gotten to the buyers later than Valentine's Day anyway.... !) Catch the new auction tomorrow, assuming I get my act together soon enough!

NASE and Health Insurance (zzzzzzzzz... !)

Hey, quick question for those of you who are self-employed or know someone who is:

I'm looking for health insurance, and I was thinking about going through NASE (National Association of Self-Employed) for it. Any of you had experience with them? I could sure use the help!

(And thanks to anyone who wants to suggest other health insurance plans, but really I just need info on NASE and/or other insurance plans for self-employed people like me. Having Celiac Disease keeps me from being accepted by most other companies, so although I appreciate the help, I've probably already been denied by all the other ones out there!)

NEW SALE! Framed V-day original art! (Happy Nerdy Valentine's Day!)

Hey guys - I was just about to put these up for auction at eBay, but then realized that it would be way easier to just sell them via the website. Especially if someone wants them in time for Valentine's Day. So here's the art:

Click for larger view! Maureen's on the left, Tyler's on the right.

Here's the blurb I wrote about these pieces:

**These valentines were made last year (2005) for the sheer hell of it. :) One features Girls With Slingshots star Maureen aka. "Blog Girl" on her laptop sending a loving Valentine's Day Instant Message. The other is Tyler with his trusty TI-81 sending a very "L337" message to his sweetheart. Both come framed in a 4"x6" wood frame (outer measurements: 5.5"x7.5"). The drawings were done in pen and ink and Prisma marker on bristol, and were carefully cut out and placed on a blue marker background.

Happy buyer may ask for free gift wrapping for their special someone, although I can't promise a Queer Eye wrapping job! I'll gladly make it look prettier for its arrival, though.**

As for the price, I'll gladly sell them each for $22 $20, plus $5 for shipping, handling, and insurance. (If you buy both pieces, you'll only need to pay $6 shipping total.) First come, first serve! Please e-mail me at girlswithslingshots@gmail.com if you'd like to purchase one of these two pieces. And I'll be sure to send them the same day that you pay if you use PayPal (granted it's before 3:00 EST) so that it gets to you in time for V-day.

More eBay auctions soon - I found my stash of original artwork (FINALLY! I was beginning to freak out!), which means lots of original tee shirt art AND original GWS strips for low prices before I raise the rates in March.

Stay toooned! (So, so witty.)

Happy Tuesday!

So first of all, happy effing Valentine's Day (because even if I DO have a date, I choose to remain snarky about the stupid holiday), and welcome to the beginning of the longest Valentine's Day in comics history.

Because, when you think about it (and I'm required to think about it three times a week now), a cartoonist can't have a holiday-themed story arc without painfully dragging out the blasted day for, possibly, WEEKS.

I hope this doesn't repel too many of you; I promise not to make it too hearts-and-flowers. This IS a strip about sacrasm, drinking, and sexual frustration, after all!

On to new topics... my pal Kelvin was kind enough to point out that "beastiality" is actually spelled "bestiality." (GWS strip #116) I retorted that Enligh is a stoopid langwidge anyway, and he came back with a quote I agree with SO much, I simply had to share it:

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that the English language is as pure as a crib-house whore. It not only borrows words from other languages; it has on occasion chased other languages down dark alley-ways, clubbed them unconscious and rifled their pockets for new vocabulary. - James Nicoll

*sniff* Thank you, Kelvin. Thank you.

On with the story arc at hand. (Oh, the humility!)

"Make-up sex."

HUGE apologies for the strip going up so late last night, guys. I'm trying to offer you make-up sex with this new auction:

This original graphite piece (appropriately titled "Anxiety") has been in my living room for a long time now, and has been wanted by just about everybody who's seen it (what can I say? A lot of people can relate to it!). The art is graphite on bristol, 9"x12" neatly mounted on black matt board in a 14"x17" black frame.

The piece was done several years ago (2001 or 2002) and has been kinda "near & dear" to me for that length. In other words, I want this thing to find a good home. The only reasons I'm getting rid of it are:

  • 1. I need the cash
  • 2. It's taking up space!
  • 3. I think someone else would appreciate it more, and
  • 4. I need the cash.

  • I have a feeling the lucky buyer will be able to pick it up for a reasonable price that will only increase with time. Bids start at $0.99, as always, and here's the link. Happy bidding!

What's that? OH, you were expecting foreplay for our make-up sex? Alright, so I guess this is supposed to come BEFORE the sex, but... to anyone who has been thinking about buying their very own GWS original, I've finally compiled a list of all the strips that are still available for sale. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME I SELL ORIGINALS FOR $45! Sometime in mid-March, the price will go up to $50 (yes, I know, that's a HUGE jump. What can I say? Inflation). I'll also be selling Bat Boy strips here.

To see if the GWS or Bat Boy strip you want is available, click here!

*hint hint: this is your chance to view the Bat Boy strips without purchasing the Weekly World News!*

    NYCC
Anybody going to the NY Comic Con next weekend? Come party with us Friday night!!

    feb.17.06

    I repeat...
This is NOT an autobiographical comic strip.

    feb.20.06

    See?
And people say there's no violence in this comic strip

I'm actually so bad at drawing violent actions that I had to have my rather talented roommate Kris photograph me punching the lens for reference:

(I'm pretty brave for posting that. How much do I love you guys?)

And now for a few re-reminders...

Assuming my car is fixed in time (more on that in a moment), I'll be at the New York Comic Con next weekend promoting GWS and Crazy Papers with Jim Dougan, and we're throwing a bash Friday night to celebrate. As loyal readers, I'm extending the invitation to all of you. If you're in the area, please join us!

Also, remember that I'll be in Austin the weekend following (March 4) basking in the indy glow of Staple!. Please come visit me if you're in the area!

So, the car thing. I spent half of the day Saturday wedged between two chain-smoking, eight-toothed tow truck drivers carrying my car to Martinsburg. *sigh* Needs a new radiator. Faaaaaantastic.

That said, I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have been donating money, and buying eBay art and original GWS strips. You're truly supporting a starving artist (raid my fridge sometime, you'll understand). Thank you, thank you, thank you.

(And thank you to Jake, Jason, Kris, and Allan for going to such great lengths to supply transportation for me!)

Think that's it for now. Gotta wake up in about two hours to go explain to my mechanic why my car is carelessly parked in front of his garage...

    Quickie...

Going over the GWS original strips for sale, I noticed that GWS088, featuring McPedro making fun of Hazel's breath, is marked as "pending." But I can't find the person who claimed this one. I think it's a typo on my part - did anybody actually request this one? Speak up if you've got dibs!
