Trick-Or-Treat!
Here's one of the treats I promised you guys! I'll be doing a twice-a-week COLOR strip for the Insight Studios Group's Halloween Webstravaganza this October, and it should start today, Wednesday the 13th. Check here every Wednesday and Friday to follow the Vampire-licious gag strip!

By the way, I posted a few character concept sketches on the cast page. Check it out!

Sunday night fever
Today's GWS strip will be posted late, late tonight due to a new working schedule (I'll explain later), as will Friday's Insight Studios/Sunny Fundays strip that didn't get posted Friday. Come back late tonight (and I'm talking west-coast-late) or early tomorrow for the goods!

Case of the Mondays
Y'know, each of these strips takes me an average of 4 hours to complete, from start to finish (this applies to the Ramblers strips as well). But starting them at 1 in the morning doesn't help me keep up to the "weekend" update deadline. Sorry 'bout that, guys!

Good news - the ISG guys posted my next Halloween strip! Knock yourself out.

About that "new working schedule" I was talking about... I'm finally EMPLOYED again. I started working at the local paper (the Martinsburg Journal) last Wednesday. I can't really give myself a title - they hired me to scan and color-correct photos, but I'm going to be stepping in for a photographer who's leaving for a few months, and they ran one of my editorial cartoons in today's paper. So let's just say I'm a "paid employee." Although I sincerely enjoy the job, the "paid" part is really all that matters. I owe my roommate bill money from September!

There'll be more goodies up here throughout the week, so stop by when you can! I'll get the editorial cartoon up here as soon as I can.

Oh, PS. My schedule is as follows: Wed-Fri mornings, Sat-Sun afternoon through evening. Which means I don't get weekends of, which blows... but which also means I get to sleep in this morning 'cause I have the day off! WOOHOO!

Deja-Vu

Remember those treats I promised you?

Allan and I picked up pumpkins to carve tonight (after a grueling day of sleeping in until 3pm!). It was soooooooo nice to have a Monday off! Of course, I spent most of it sleeping, eating and carving. Eh, tomorrow will be more productive.

Anyway, here are our pumpkins. Allan found one more thing to put a skull on (I give him hell for it all the time!). He's gotten pretty damn good at drawing freehand! Click on the little icon to see a larger version.

I, of course, had to take my sweet freakin' time doing little details with the Xacto knife. Check it out - it matches up with the intro to Life Sucks (let's play "How many times can I plug that webcomic?"!)

Sleep deprivation
Thought I should send my apologies to everyone who's called or e-mailed me in the past 20 days or so. (Hopefully my pal Marcel Walker of Ricochet Graphics is reading this...!) I wanted to get back to everyone this week, but I've been on a 5-strip schedule (two GWS, two ISG, and one Ramblers) for the past two weeks and am running myself down! I've barely had time to sleep, and I don't want to make myself sick... so of course, the first to go is my social life. Ie., the phone gets turned off.

Here's a smaller version of what kept me up last night:

I belong to a small group called "The Nose" which is a great online agency for caricature artists around the country (if you need a party caricature artist, be sure to visit them!). I lucked out the other day with a request for a last-minute job that needed to be done in 48 hours. Needless to say, we did a Civil War theme for this one (I spent at least an hour researching uniforms! GAH!!).

A little commentary on my day job: much to my surprise and delight, I've found that even REAL newspapers utilize their employees' every skill, just like my college paper did. That said, I'm going to be filling in for a photographer who's going to be on military leave, in addition to whipping up a few editorial cartoons now and then. There's a surprising amount of VERY talented young fellas at the Journal already, one of which has had a stint with Image and is, I must say, impressive. He let me fill in for last week's editorial cartoon:

Allow me to explain. There's a councilman in Martinsburg who walks around the streets with a baseball bat, threatening and even attacking people who do "naughty things." Naughty things like tearing out of parking lots, mounting old cars onto cement blocks (remember, this is West Virginia we're talking about), and drinking alcohol on their own porches. Recently he tracked down a kid on a motorcycle and, after spitting on the kid and banging on his bike, got the shit beat out of him. Hence, the black eye in the cartoon.

The guy kinda thinks he's the president of West Virginia, which I think is just cool as hell. He's supplied the Journal with an endless amount of real gems, such as "I'm like the Lone Ranger!" and "I'm like Frank Sinatra; I do it MY way!"

The coolest part of doing this cartoon is that apparently the councilman saw it in the Journal, photocopied it a zillion times and SIGNED AND DISTRIBUTED COPIES to people! One of the front desk ladies is holding a photocopy for me, signed by the President of West Virginia himself. I can't wait to get it!

One last thing before I go; Al Gross was nice enough to post all of the "Life Sucks" Halloween strips on the ISG site; it's all right here. (Thanks, Al!)

Gotta go work on the next one now... I can kiss sleep good-bye!

Today's message brought to you buy Glenn, a nice guy who likes Girls With Slingshots. Thanks, Glenn!

More of that sleep deprivation...
Well, bad news guys. It's not humanly possible for me to do any GWS strips this weekend (hence the placeholder). I'm running on an average of 4 hours of sleep per night, and I personally don't want to get sick over this. I can't apologize enough.

But don't think I'm not bummed about it myself; I was all psyched to introduce Hazel's new handful (namely the "Boooooobies" kid from last week's strip)! But I know when I'm not getting enough sleep, and I am DEFINITELY not getting enough sleep right now. I'm going to make myself ill if I keep this up.

I'm going to try to have more surprises for you guys this week. I'll probably run the "Life Sucks" Halloween strips up until Halloween next week, daily, so that anyone who missed them can catch up.

Ooo, which reminds me, check out yesterday's sassy strip (it's at the bottom)! Forgive the resizing - for some reason it's stretched out on the Sunny Fundays site.

Check back Sunday for the hot & romantic end of the recent "soap opera" in Ramblers - only a couple more strips left before this story ends!!
